SENSIMED Triggerfish
Twenty-four hours. One lens.
SENSIMED Triggerfish records what a single clinic reading cannot: how the eye changes across a full day, including sleep. A disposable silicone contact lens with an embedded strain gauge detects tiny circumferential changes at the corneoscleral junction and sends them wirelessly to an adhesive antenna around the eye; a cable carries the data to a pocket recorder. Afterwards the recording is transferred over Bluetooth to the clinician's software. In the US it is indicated to identify the window of peak IOP variation, to time conventional tonometry.
Key specifications
Why the SENSIMED Triggerfish
The whole day, recorded
Office tonometry gives one value at one time. Triggerfish records continuously for up to 24 hours, including during sleep, while the patient follows normal routines.
A sensor inside a lens
A strain gauge in the periphery of a soft silicone lens detects small changes in the eye's circumference at the corneoscleral junction.
Wireless to the recorder
An adhesive antenna around the eye powers the lens and receives its data, which a thin cable passes to a pocket recorder.
Timing tonometry
In the US it is cleared to show when IOP variation peaks, so clinicians can schedule conventional IOP measurement at the right time. It complements tonometry and does not replace it.
Simple for patients
Two short visits: one to fit the lens and antenna, one to remove them. Patients avoid heavy sweating, which can loosen the adhesive antenna.
Where it is used
Glaucoma services and specialist ophthalmology clinics, for patients with glaucoma or suspected glaucoma, including normal-tension glaucoma and progression despite apparently controlled pressure.
In the box
Each recording uses a single-use Triggerfish sensor (contact lens) and adhesive antenna; the reusable recorder, data cable, charger, Bluetooth adapter and software are supplied with the system. Pack sizes and configurations are confirmed with the quotation.
Clearance & compliance
FDA De Novo granted DEN140017 (4 Mar 2016; new regulation 21 CFR 886.1925 'Diurnal pattern recorder system', Class II, product code PLZ; prescription device). Supplied subject to registration in each destination country (MOHAP, DoH, DHA, SFDA or the equivalent authority). Certificates, declarations of conformity, IFUs and registration documents are provided with every quotation. Specifications are indicative and subject to manufacturer change.

Questions
Is SENSIMED Triggerfish available in the UAE and the GCC?
KGG sources SENSIMED Triggerfish systems and sensors on request for hospitals and glaucoma clinics in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
How do I get a price?
Add it to your quote list or use Request a quote. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents for your country, for the system and for single-use sensors and antennas.
Does it give IOP in mmHg?
No. It records relative changes in the eye's dimension that follow IOP-related patterns over 24 hours. Pressure in mmHg is still measured with conventional tonometry.
What does the patient feel?
Sensimed reports that the most common effects are a red eye and slightly blurred vision, as the lens has no optical correction. Artificial tears can be used if the eye feels dry.
Which patients should not use it?
The FDA summary lists active eye disease, infection or inflammation, contact lens intolerance, corneal vascularisation, insufficient tear secretion, reduced corneal sensation and silicone allergy as contraindications.
Is the sensor reusable?
No. The lens sensor is for single-patient, one-time use for one recording of up to 24 hours and must not be re-sterilised. The recorder is reusable.
