Reichert
Any position. A few taps.
The Tono-Pen AVIA measures intraocular pressure with a micro-strain-gauge transducer: the clinician taps the anaesthetised cornea and the device averages the readings and shows the result with a statistical confidence indicator. It works in any position, so patients in beds or wheelchairs can be measured, and it needs no routine calibration. Quick-Tap mode gives a reading in as few as two taps, useful for children and less cooperative patients, alongside the traditional five-tap mode.
Key specifications
Why the Tono-Pen AVIA
Any position
The Tono-Pen AVIA is gravity independent, so it measures patients sitting, reclined, in bed or in a wheelchair, at the bedside or in theatre.
Quick-Tap mode
Quick-Tap gives a reliable IOP in as few as two taps, useful for children and less cooperative patients; the First Generation mode typically uses five.
Less sensitive to centration
Reichert states the micro-strain-gauge transducer is less sensitive to corneal centration than other tonometers, with minimal operator bias, so measurements delegate easily to technicians.
Always ready
No routine calibration is required. A removable Powercel battery pack with an on-screen indicator is replaced without tools.
Built for both hands
Soft-touch grips, one-button operation and dual-sided LCD screens suit left- and right-handed users.
Where it is used
Ophthalmology and optometry clinics, emergency departments, wards and operating theatres, paediatric eye care, glaucoma screening and outreach.

Does it need anaesthetic drops?

Which tip covers does it use?
Genuine Reichert Ocu-Film+ single-use tip covers, in boxes of 150 or bulk packs of 600. Reichert warns that other covers may give erratic readings and void the warranty. The covers contain natural rubber latex.

Can it be used and stored in Gulf heat?
Reichert specifies operation at 15–35 °C and transport and storage from −10 to 60 °C. Use it in air-conditioned rooms and keep it in its case out of direct sun.
