Suprathel

A second skin. Applied once.

Suprathel is a microporous membrane made from a lactide-based copolymer. It is applied once to a cleaned, debrided and disinfected wound and stays in place until healing is complete; once applied it turns translucent, so the healing tissue can be checked through it. Like skin, it is elastic, permeable to water vapour and impermeable to bacteria, and it breaks down by hydrolysis to carbon dioxide and water. It contains no human or animal material and, according to PolyMedics, is used in more than 40 countries.

Why the Suprathel

Applied once

Suprathel goes on once and stays until the wound has healed. Only the outer gauze is changed; removing the membrane during these changes should be avoided so the healing tissue underneath is not disturbed.

Healing in view

The white membrane turns translucent after application, so clinicians can follow the healing process without lifting it.

Built like skin

Elastic, permeable to water vapour and impermeable to bacteria. It can be trimmed, overlapped for larger areas and gently stretched around elbows, fingers and other curved areas.

Purely synthetic

With no human or animal-derived material, it carries none of the residual biological risks of biological products and resorbs to carbon dioxide and water.

Published evidence

PolyMedics cites published studies reporting pain relief of up to 60%, fewer dressing changes and shorter hospital stays, with more than 250,000 patients treated worldwide.

Where it is used

Burn units, plastic and reconstructive surgery departments, paediatric burn care and theatres harvesting split-thickness skin grafts.

In the box

Questions

Is Suprathel available in the UAE and the GCC?

KGG sources Suprathel on request for burn units, plastic surgery departments and hospitals in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.

How do I get a price?

Add Suprathel to your quote list or use Request a quote, listing the sizes and pack quantities you need. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents for your country.

How long does Suprathel stay on the wound?

Until the wound has healed. It is a single-application product: the membrane is not changed, and only the gauze layers over it are replaced as needed.

Which sizes are available?

Internationally: 5 × 5 cm, 9 × 10 cm, 18 × 10 cm and 18 × 23 cm sheets, plus a Face Mask and a Hand Shape. The US range adds 54 × 23 cm and 36 × 46 cm sheets. Tell us the sizes and pack quantities you need.

Can it be used on infected wounds?

No. The IFU contraindicates Suprathel on infected wounds and on heavily bleeding wounds without additional haemostatic treatment. The wound is cleaned, debrided and disinfected before application.

How should it be stored in Gulf heat?

PolyMedics specifies storage in the original packaging, dry and cool, between −20 °C and +22 °C and away from heat sources, so climate-controlled transport and storage are needed in the Gulf.
