ACTICOAT
Silver that moves with the body.
ACTICOAT Flex dressings carry nanocrystalline silver on a flexible mesh that conforms to joints and body contours and stretches with movement. Once moistened with water, the dressing releases silver into the wound fluid, with antimicrobial activity remaining effective for up to 3 days (Flex 3) or 7 days (Flex 7). It can be applied either way up, used under compression or as a contact layer with NPWT for up to 3 days, and is covered with a secondary dressing that keeps the wound moist.
Key specifications
Why the ACTICOAT Flex
Conforms to the body
The flexible mesh moves with joints and contours and can be placed either way up, which suits hands, feet and large burn areas.
Three or seven days
Flex 3 suits wounds that need frequent review; Flex 7 keeps antimicrobial activity for up to 7 days, reducing dressing changes.
Works with other therapies
It can sit under compression bandaging and serves as a contact layer under NPWT for up to 3 days.
Simple preparation
Moisten with sterile water, not saline, and drain, or use a thin hydrogel layer. Cover with a secondary dressing that keeps the wound moist.
Where it is used
Burns units, operating theatres and surgical wards, and chronic wound clinics for partial- and full-thickness wounds, including infected wounds alongside local infection protocols.

How do I get a price?
Add it to your quote list or use Request a quote. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents available for your country.
What is the difference between Flex 3 and Flex 7?
Both use the same nanocrystalline silver technology. Flex 3 remains antimicrobially effective for up to 3 days and Flex 7 for up to 7 days, so Flex 7 suits wounds that are reviewed less often.
Why must saline not be used?
Smith+Nephew instructs users to cleanse and moisten the dressing with water, not saline, and to drain excess water before application. Alternatively, a thin layer of hydrogel can be used.
Can it be used during MRI or radiotherapy?
No. Remove the dressing from the anatomical field before MRI and before radiotherapy; a new dressing can be applied afterwards.
How does it differ from standard ACTICOAT?
ACTICOAT and ACTICOAT 7 are layered absorbent barrier dressings. The Flex versions are a single flexible mesh designed to conform to the body and to be used under compression and with NPWT.
