McGRATH
Familiar technique. Clearer view.
McGRATH MAC combines the familiar Macintosh technique with a line-of-sight video view on a 2.4-inch colour screen mounted on the handle. Sterile, single-use blades in Macintosh sizes 1 to 4 slide over the camera, and the hyperangulated X3 blade is available for difficult airways. The 200 g handle runs on a disposable battery pack of about 250 minutes or a rechargeable battery, with a minute-by-minute countdown and auto-off, and is used in theatres, ICUs, emergency departments and EMS.
Key specifications
Why the McGRATH MAC
Macintosh, on screen
The blade shapes follow Macintosh curvature, so clinicians use their usual technique while seeing the larynx on the screen or by direct line of sight.
Blades are the consumable
Each patient gets a new sterile blade in sizes 1 to 4 or X3. Blades use 12.3 g of polymer, which Medtronic says cuts material waste by 76–83% versus standard disposable blades.
X3 for difficult airways
The hyperangulated X3 blade is designed for anticipated or unexpected difficult airways, on the same handle.
Power you can count
The screen shows remaining battery minute by minute. Choose the ≈250-minute disposable pack or a rechargeable battery with a 10,000-minute life.
Where it is used
Operating theatres, intensive care, emergency departments, EMS and air ambulance, wherever airway teams intubate adults and children.

What is the difference from the McGRATH MAC+?
Medtronic's MAC+ has a 3-inch screen with 4.5 times the resolution, plus recording, streaming and wireless features. It runs only on a rechargeable battery and does not accept the 3.6 V disposable pack used by the MAC.
How long does the battery last?
The disposable 3.6 V pack gives about 250 minutes of screen time with an on-screen countdown. The rechargeable battery runs about 120 minutes per charge and has a useful life of 10,000 minutes.
How can we be sure a handle is genuine?
In September 2023 Medtronic warned that stolen, defective McGRATH MAC handles had entered the market. Ask for serial and lot numbers with any quotation and check them against Medtronic's notices.
