iCare
The whole retina. In true colour.
The iCare EIDON family combines a confocal optical engine with a white LED light source covering the visible spectrum, so retinal images keep colours close to reality and stay sharp through cataract. Three models share one platform: EIDON for TrueColor and infrared imaging, EIDON AF adding blue fundus autofluorescence, and EIDON FA adding automated fluorescein angiography with video. Each unit captures 90° in a single shot, stitches mosaics automatically, and accepts the optional EIDON UWF Module for 120° single images and up to 200° panoramas. Operation runs from fully automatic to fully manual on a built-in tablet-operated computer, with no separate PC required.
Key specifications
Why the iCare EIDON
True colour, confocal
A white LED covering the visible spectrum illuminates the retina through confocal optics, giving TrueColor images with colours close to reality and the contrast to image through cataract.
Small pupils, no drops
Imaging works through pupils as small as 2.5 mm without dilation, and the system runs from fully automatic to fully manual, so staff need minimal training.
From pole to periphery
90° in a single shot and automatic mosaics up to 160°. The optional UWF Module extends this to 120° per shot and 200° panoramas, in TrueColor, infrared, autofluorescence and FA.
Three models, one platform
EIDON covers TrueColor and infrared, EIDON AF adds blue fundus autofluorescence for RPE assessment, and EIDON FA automates fluorescein angiography and records FA video at 5 fps.
Built in and networked
An internal computer with tablet control, RGB channel separation, a stereo view of the optic disc, optional DICOM export and a browser-based Remote Viewer for review from any computer on the clinic network.
Where it is used
Retina and medical ophthalmology clinics, glaucoma and diabetic eye services, hospital eye departments, optometry practices and clinical research centres.
In the box
EIDON, EIDON AF or EIDON FA base unit with integrated computer, tablet with support, joystick support and external fixation light, as described in the operating manual. The EIDON UWF Module, DICOM option and Remote Viewer licences are optional. Instrument table and configuration are confirmed with the quotation.
Clearance & compliance
FDA 510(k) cleared: EIDON K142047 (2014), EIDON FA K180526 (2018), and EIDON, EIDON AF, EIDON FA and EIDON UWFL K211328 (2021); 21 CFR 886.1570, Class II, product code MYC; indicated as a confocal scanning ophthalmoscope for colour, infrared and autofluorescence imaging and fluorescein angiography of a human retina with or without the use of a mydriatic agent (EIDON FA) · CE marked with notified body 0123 (EIDON Family brochure REV04); MDR class not stated in public material. Supplied subject to registration in each destination country (MOHAP, DoH, DHA, SFDA or the equivalent authority). Questions
Is the iCare EIDON available in the UAE and the GCC?
KGG sources the iCare EIDON, EIDON AF, EIDON FA and the UWF Module on request for hospitals, eye clinics and screening programmes in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
How do I get a price?
Add it to your quote list or use Request a quote. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents for your country, and can quote the UWF Module, DICOM and Remote Viewer options with it.
What is the difference between EIDON, EIDON AF and EIDON FA?
All three share the same TrueColor confocal platform and 90° field. EIDON offers TrueColor, infrared and RGB channel separation; EIDON AF adds blue fundus autofluorescence; EIDON FA adds autofluorescence plus automated fluorescein angiography with video, and has a 2 TB drive.
Do patients need dilating drops?
Usually not. iCare states a minimum pupil size of 2.5 mm for non-mydriatic imaging. The FDA indication for the family covers imaging with or without a mydriatic agent, and fluorescein angiography follows normal clinical protocols.
How wide is the field of view, and what does the UWF Module add?
Standard imaging gives 90° per shot and automatic mosaics up to 160°. The optional EIDON UWF Module fits any EIDON model and gives 120° per shot and up to 200° with mosaic, in all imaging modalities.
Does it connect to PACS or an EMR, and how much space does it need?
EIDON exports JPEG and PDF as standard and DICOM as an option, over Gigabit Ethernet. It is a 25 kg tabletop unit (360 × 590 × 620 mm) with its own computer, for a semi-dark room at 10–40 °C.
