iCare
Clear retinas. Small pupils.
The iCare DRSplus uses white LED illumination and confocal optics to produce TrueColor, detail-rich 45° retinal images, including through cataract, without dilating drops for most patients. Alignment, focus, exposure and capture are fully automatic, so a technician or nurse can image patients after minimal training. Infrared, red-free, blue and red channels, external eye photography, an optional stereo view of the optic disc and an 83° mosaic add depth to each exam. It is the imaging device behind the iCare Screening Solution with iCare ILLUME, where that service is available.
Key specifications
Why the iCare DRSplus
True colour through cataract
White LED light and confocal optics produce TrueColor 45° images with high sharpness and contrast, and allow imaging through cataract and other media opacities.
No drops for most patients
Imaging through pupils as small as 2.5 mm removes the need for dilation in most cases, which iCare describes as a more comfortable exam and a faster clinic workflow.
Automatic from start to finish
Auto-alignment, auto-focus, auto-exposure, auto-capture and auto-montage let trained non-specialist staff capture quality images quickly with minimal training.
More than a colour photo
Infrared for the choroid, red-free, blue and red channels, external eye photography, an optional stereo pair of the disc and mosaics up to 83° in one compact device.
Remote review and AI screening
Remote Viewer and Remote Exam work over the clinic network, and DRSplus connects to iCare ILLUME for AI-assisted screening reports in markets where that service is authorised.
Where it is used
Diabetic eye screening programmes, diabetes and endocrine clinics, primary care, optometry and optician practices, hospital eye departments and ophthalmology clinics.

Questions

How do I get a price?
Add it to your quote list or use Request a quote. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents for your country, including the mosaic, stereo, DICOM and Remote Viewer options if you need them.
Does it work without dilating drops and through cataract?
Yes, in most patients. iCare states a minimum pupil of 2.5 mm for non-mydriatic imaging, and the confocal TrueColor technology is designed to image through cataract and vitreous opacities. Clinical judgement decides when dilation is still needed.
Is it suitable for a diabetic retinopathy screening programme?
Yes. Its 45° field, small-pupil capability and fully automatic operation suit high-volume screening by trained non-specialist staff. iCare pairs it with the iCare ILLUME AI service where authorised; ask us about its status in your country.
Can it send images to our PACS or EMR?
DRSplus exports JPEG and PDF as standard, with DICOM and a Web API available as options over Gigabit Ethernet. The browser-based Remote Viewer lets up to five networked stations review exams.
How much space does it need?
It is a compact 11 kg tabletop unit, 300 × 450 × 650 mm, with its own computer and 10.1-inch screen. It needs a stable table, an earthed socket and a room kept at 10–35 °C.
