Cellvizio passes fibre-optic Confocal Miniprobes through the working channel of an endoscope or through a 19 G needle and images a thin focal plane within the tissue with a 488 nm laser, at 8–12 frames per second. Physicians use it in gastroenterology, including Barrett's oesophagus, pancreatic cysts and bile-duct strictures, and in pulmonology and urology. The next-generation system adds a touch-screen interface, single-handed probe connection, picture-in-picture integration and DICOM export, and is AI-enabled for assisted image pattern recognition.

Cellvizio images cells and vessels inside the patient during the procedure, giving the endoscopist cellular information before a biopsy result is available.
Probes for each indication
Confocal Miniprobes fit standard endoscope channels from 2.8 mm down to 1.0 mm, and AQ-Flex 19 N passes through a 19 G needle during EUS-FNA or EBUS-TBNA.
Fits the procedure room
Picture-in-picture shows the confocal image beside the endoscopic view, and DICOM export sends images and video to PACS for archiving.

An orientable touch screen, single-handed probe connection and a slim mobile cart with a 57 × 65 cm footprint make the system quick to start and easy to move.

The next-generation platform is AI-enabled for assisted image pattern recognition and can support additional wavelengths and modalities such as fluorescence-guided surgery.

Is Cellvizio available in the UAE and the GCC?

Which probe do we need?
It depends on the indication: GastroFlex N for the upper GI tract, ColoFlex N for the colon, CholangioFlex N for bile and pancreatic ducts, AQ-Flex 19 N through a 19 G needle (for example in pancreatic cysts or EBUS-TBNA) and AlveoFlex N for the airways.
How many times can a probe be used?
Mauna Kea lists 20 uses for GastroFlex N, ColoFlex N and AlveoFlex N, and 10 uses for CholangioFlex N and AQ-Flex 19 N.
Does it replace biopsy?
Mauna Kea states that diagnostic assessment should always be made by the attending physician using all clinical, endoscopic and other relevant information. Cellvizio adds real-time cellular imaging; it is not presented as a replacement for histology.
Is a contrast agent needed?
Imaging of blood flow and microvasculature uses fluorescein sodium as a contrast agent, according to the FDA indication. Fluorescein is a medicine and is sourced and registered separately.
