Dräger
Jaundice screening, without the needle.
The Dräger JM-105 estimates bilirubin through the skin (TcB), helping clinicians decide which newborns need a blood test rather than drawing blood from every baby. Results appear in seconds, and Dräger states it identifies at-risk infants as young as 24 weeks' gestational age. The probe tip is cleaned with an alcohol wipe between infants, so there are no disposables, and a barcode scanner and data transfer send readings to the electronic medical record. It is a screening device, not a stand-alone diagnostic for hyperbilirubinaemia.
Key specifications
Why the Dräger JM-105
Fewer heel pricks
Transcutaneous screening helps decide which infants need a blood test, reducing blood draws, painful procedures and laboratory processing.
Results in seconds
A reading takes seconds at the cot side, and an integrated flagging feature helps track infants who need special attention under your jaundice protocol.
No disposable tips
Clean the reusable probe tip with an alcohol wipe and measure. Dräger notes that in busy nurseries the cost of disposables can exceed the cost of a device.
Straight to the record
A barcode scanner and data transfer move readings into the infant's electronic medical record, reducing transcription errors.
Where it is used
Maternity wards, well-baby nurseries, NICUs and postnatal follow-up clinics running neonatal jaundice screening programmes.

Questions
Is the Dräger JM-105 available in the UAE and the GCC?
KGG sources the Dräger JM-105 on request for maternity units, NICUs and clinics in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
Does it replace a serum bilirubin test?
No. It is a screening device to help decide which infants need a blood test. Dräger states it is not intended as a stand-alone device for diagnosing hyperbilirubinaemia, and a blood test confirms high readings.
What happens above 20 mg/dL?
Above 20.0 mg/dL (340 µmol/L) the JM-105 shows a flashing "-0-" out-of-range message, not a zero. After the 2018 field action Dräger updated labelling, training and software; users should be trained to treat this message as a high value needing a blood test.
Are there consumables?
No disposable tips are needed. The probe tip is cleaned with an alcohol wipe between infants.
Which infants should not be measured?
Dräger lists exclusions including infants with pathological jaundice, hydrops fetalis, congenital malformations, and skin conditions or infections that could interfere with the measurement. Read the instructions for use before first use.
