SecurAcath

Secured at the skin. For the life of the line.

SecurAcath holds the catheter with two small, flexible nitinol feet placed just beneath the skin at the insertion site, joined to a base and cover that clip onto the catheter shaft. It can stay in place for the entire catheter dwell, so the securement does not need changing at each dressing change. The catheter and device can be lifted to clean 360 degrees around the site while still secured. It is sized to the catheter in whole French sizes and removed at the bedside when the catheter comes out.

Why the SecurAcath

No sutures. No adhesive.

Securement comes from two flexible feet just beneath the skin, so there are no suture needlesticks and no adhesive pad to replace at every dressing change.

For the life of the line

The device stays in place for the entire catheter dwell and holds the catheter right at the insertion site, helping limit catheter movement and dislodgement.

360-degree site cleaning

The catheter and device can be lifted perpendicular to the skin so the whole insertion site can be cleaned while the line remains secured.

Adjustable after placement

The cover can be removed to adjust external catheter length and replaced. Removal uses a fold-base technique, or the base can be split with blunt scissors.

MR Conditional

Patients with the device can be scanned at 1.5 T or 3 T under the conditions stated in the IFU.

Where it is used

Vascular access teams, ICUs, oncology and haematology units, paediatric and neonatal services, interventional radiology and home infusion programmes.

Questions

Is SecurAcath available in the UAE and the GCC?

KGG sources SecurAcath on request for hospitals, vascular access teams and home infusion providers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.

Who makes SecurAcath today?

SecurAcath is made by Interrad Medical, Inc. of Plymouth, Minnesota, USA, which still owns the brand. Some markets use local sales or distribution partners, but the device and IFU come from Interrad Medical.

Which size do I need?

Match the device to the catheter's French size: 3F to 8F. If the catheter is a half size, use the closest smaller SecurAcath, for example an 8F device for an 8.5F catheter. At least 3 cm of catheter shaft must be exposed above the skin.

Does it need changing at each dressing change?

No. It is designed to remain in place for the entire catheter dwell. Dressings and site cleaning continue per protocol, and the device is removed when the catheter is removed.

Are there patients it is not suitable for?

The IFU lists contraindications including unfavourable skin integrity, infection at the site, known nickel allergy (the device contains nitinol) and previously irradiated insertion sites. Clinicians should review the full IFU before use.
