Getinge
Low flow. Full control.
Flow-i is the most advanced machine in Getinge's Flow family of anaesthesia systems, built by Maquet Critical Care in Sweden. Its Flow Core Technology combines the Maquet Volume Reflector rebreather with Servo gas modules that adjust pressure and flow within every breath, with up to 200 l/min inspiratory flow, tidal volumes of 20–2,000 ml and pressures up to 120 cmH2O. Electronic vaporisers, fresh gas flows down to 0.1 l/min and optional Automatic Gas Control (AGC) make low-flow anaesthesia routine, while O2Guard and MAC Brain are standard. It comes on a cart with drawers (C20), as a height-adjustable model (C30) or ceiling-mounted for the hybrid OR (C40).
Key specifications
Why the Flow-i
ICU-grade ventilation
Servo gas modules deliver up to 200 l/min inspiratory flow and the Volume Reflector rebreather keeps gas delivery precise. Getinge says this reduces the need for an ICU ventilator in the OR, even for challenging patients.
Low flow, automated
With Automatic Gas Control the clinician sets target inspired oxygen, end-tidal agent and speed, and the system makes the adjustments. Getinge cites a study showing sevoflurane wastage reduced by up to 58%.
Active hypoxia prevention
If the inspired oxygen level drops below 21%, O2Guard overrules the settings and increases the oxygen flow. Getinge describes it as the only system of its kind; it is standard on every Flow machine.
Dosing with MAC Brain
MAC Brain uses mathematical models to visualise the difference in agent effect between the lungs and the brain, giving decision support for anaesthetic dosing. Optional lung recruitment manoeuvres help counter atelectasis.
Three ways to install
Choose the C20 for extra storage with two or three drawers, the height-adjustable C30 to match each user's working position, or the ceiling-mounted C40, which frees the floor and eases cleaning in hybrid ORs.
Where it is used
Hospital operating rooms for complex and general cases, including paediatric, neonatal and robotic surgery, and hybrid ORs with the ceiling-mounted C40. Not for use in MRI environments.
In the box

Questions
Is the Flow-i available in the UAE and the GCC?
KGG sources the Flow-i on request for hospitals and surgical centres in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
How do I get a price?
Add it to your quote list or use Request a quote. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents for your country, and we can quote the C20, C30 or C40 version with Automatic Gas Control, lung recruitment and other options.
What is the difference between Flow-i, Flow-c and Flow-e?
Flow-i offers the widest settings as standard (tidal volume 20–2,000 ml, pressure up to 120 cmH2O), two vaporiser slots and three versions, including height-adjustable and ceiling-mounted. Flow-c is the compact model with one active slot; Flow-e is the extended workstation. All share the same interface, O2Guard and MAC Brain.
Which anaesthetic agents can it deliver?
Sevoflurane, desflurane and isoflurane through electronic vaporisers, with or without nitrous oxide. Each vaporiser holds 300 ml, can be refilled during use and needs no heating time for desflurane; two vaporisers can sit in the active slots.
Can it ventilate neonates and small children?
Yes. The indications cover neonatal to adult patients, tidal volumes start at 20 ml, and Getinge describes Flow-i as suitable for paediatric surgery; it has published a case study of a 393 g neonate. Breathing circuits are chosen to suit the patient size.
What happens if mains power or the gas supply fails?
Getinge states a battery backup of approximately 90 minutes. Backup gas cylinders can be added as an option (2+1 configuration on Flow-i), and an emergency ventilation function is available.
