geko
The calf pump, switched on.
geko devices use OnPulse neuromuscular electrostimulation: gentle 1 Hz pulses to the common peroneal nerve produce a painless muscle contraction once a second, moving the foot out and up. Firstkind reports deep calf vein blood flow equal to 60% of that achieved by walking, without external pressure on the leg and with the patient free to move. The geko T-3 is used in hospital for VTE prevention and oedema, while the geko W-3 increases circulation and promotes wound healing in venous and mixed-aetiology leg ulcers.
Key specifications
Why the geko
Blood flow without pressure
Activating the calf and foot muscle pumps raises deep calf vein flow to 60% of walking levels, according to Firstkind, with no external pressure on the leg.
Wire-free and mobile
The 10 g device has no leads, tubing or pump unit, so there is no tripping hazard and patients can stay mobile.
NICE-supported for VTE
NICE guidance (HTG344) supports geko to reduce VTE risk in people for whom other mechanical and drug prophylaxis is impractical or contraindicated.
Wound therapy
The geko W-3 increases venous, arterial and microcirculatory blood flow and is used for venous and mixed-aetiology leg ulcers.
Simple fitting
The marker line sits over the fibula head below the knee, with alternative positions if needed. Visible foot movement confirms that stimulation is working.
Where it is used
Hospital wards including stroke and obstetrics, orthopaedic and trauma units for pre- and post-operative oedema, wound clinics and community care.

Questions
Is the geko available in the UAE and the GCC?
KGG sources geko devices on request for hospitals, wound care services and orthopaedic units in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
What is the difference between the T-3 and the W-3?
The T-3 is the hospital device for VTE prevention and oedema, worn for up to 24 hours per device with 11 settings. The W-3 is for wound healing, gives two 12-hour treatments on separate days and has 10 settings.
Who should not use it without specialist advice?
The IFU asks for specialist advice in patients with implanted electronic devices, recently diagnosed or suspected DVT, pregnancy or breastfeeding, a heart condition or epilepsy. It is not applied over broken, infected or inflamed skin and is removed before MRI.
Can it be used alongside other prophylaxis?
NICE guidance supports geko when other mechanical and drug prophylaxis is impractical or contraindicated, and describes its use with drug prophylaxis in high-risk patients as cost-neutral for up to three days.
How should it be stored in Gulf heat?
Keep devices in the foil pouch between −25 °C and 40 °C, ideally at 30 °C or below, so climate-controlled storage and transport are advisable in the GCC. Shelf life is two years.
