AirPhysio is a small expiratory device with a high-density stainless-steel ball resting in a dual cone. As the user breathes out through it, the ball oscillates, vibrating the airway walls and intermittently raising pressure in the airways so they stay open while mucus moves up to be coughed out. Tilting the device changes the resistance. The Average Lung Capacity model has a medium resistance setting; separate Low Lung, Sport and Kids versions are available.

Why the AirPhysio
Vibration plus pressure
The oscillating steel ball vibrates the airway walls to loosen mucus, while positive pressure keeps the airways open during exhalation so mucus can move up.
Tilt to adjust
Changing the angle at which the device is held alters the effort needed, the oscillation frequency and the expiratory pressure.
Drug-free and portable
No batteries, power or medication. The pocket-sized device has a mouthpiece cap and a child-resistant cover.
Choose the right model
Average Lung has medium resistance for most adults. Low Lung suits very low lung capacity or severe disease; Sport and Kids versions are separate products.

Respiratory physiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation, home airway clearance for chronic bronchitis and bronchiectasis, pharmacies and respiratory clinics.

What is it cleared for?
The FDA clearance covers use as a positive expiratory pressure device for improving the clearance of mucus secretions from the airways. It may also help remove mucus in chronic bronchitis or bronchiectasis where PEP therapy is needed.
Which model should a patient use?
AirPhysio recommends the Average Lung Capacity model for most teenagers and adults. People with very low lung capacity or a severe lung condition use the Low Lung model; Sport and Kids versions are separate.
Who should not use it?
The 510(k) lists pneumothorax, tuberculosis, haemoptysis, oesophageal surgery, right-sided heart failure and middle ear problems such as a ruptured eardrum. Patients should follow their clinician's advice.
How does it compare with a Flutter device?
FDA cleared AirPhysio as substantially equivalent to the Flutter D. Both use a steel ball in a cone; AirPhysio uses polycarbonate, a dual cone, a mouthpiece cap and a child-resistant cover.
