SAM Medical
Pure chitosan. Fast control.
ChitoSAM 100 is made from a nonwoven gauze spun directly from chitosan, rather than a standard gauze coated or impregnated with a haemostatic agent. Applied with firm pressure, it turns gel-like, absorbs blood and seals the wound, working independently of the body's normal clotting processes. It comes in tear-anywhere packaging in two Z-fold lengths for wound packing and a flat 10 × 10 cm single-ply pad.
Key specifications
Why the ChitoSAM 100
Chitosan all the way through
Unlike dressings that are only coated or impregnated, ChitoSAM 100 is a nonwoven gauze spun directly from chitosan, so the haemostatic material is the dressing itself.
Clotting-independent
Chitosan forms a gel that absorbs blood and seals the wound without relying on the body's normal clotting processes.
Opens from any edge
Tear-anywhere packaging gives fast access with gloved or bloodied hands, whichever edge is reached first.
Pack or cover
Z-fold lengths of 1.22 m and 1.83 m for packing deep wounds; the flat 10 × 10 cm pad can be laid on wounds alongside trauma gauze.
Where it is used
Military and police medics, EMS and fire services, search and rescue, worksite trauma kits and bleeding-control kits alongside a tourniquet.
In the box
One sterile ChitoSAM 100 dressing per foil pouch (4 × 4 in pad, 3 in × 4 ft Z-fold or 3 in × 6 ft Z-fold). Pack sizes and configurations are confirmed with the quotation.
Clearance & compliance
FDA 510(k) cleared (K133121; ChitoSAM 100 for prescription use, ChitoSAM Active for OTC use) · CE marked (notified body 0050; EU AR Emergo Europe), per SAM Medical data sheet. Supplied subject to registration in each destination country (MOHAP, DoH, DHA, SFDA or the equivalent authority). Certificates, declarations of conformity, IFUs and registration documents are provided with every quotation. Specifications are indicative and subject to manufacturer change.

Questions
Is ChitoSAM 100 available in the UAE and the GCC?
Yes. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.
How do I get a price?
Add ChitoSAM 100 to your quote list or use Request a quote, stating the size. We reply with pricing, lead time and the documents available for your country.
Which size should we choose?
The 3 in × 6 ft Z-fold suits deep junctional or large wounds that need packing; the 3 in × 4 ft Z-fold is more compact for individual kits; the 4 × 4 in pad suits surface wounds or as a layer under trauma gauze.
Is it suitable for people with shellfish allergy?
The chitosan is derived from crustacean or snow-crab shells. SAM Medical does not make an allergy claim on its product page, so follow your clinical protocol and the IFU.
How does it differ from kaolin gauze?
Kaolin dressings such as QuikClot accelerate the body's clotting cascade. ChitoSAM 100 is pure chitosan, which forms a sealing gel independent of clotting.
What is the difference between ChitoSAM 100 and ChitoSAM Active?
Both are covered by the same FDA clearance. ChitoSAM 100 is the professional (prescription) version for moderate to severe bleeding; ChitoSAM Active is the over-the-counter version for minor cuts and abrasions.
