SAM Medical

Bends to fit. Holds firm.

SAM Splint is a non-sterile, reusable splint for short-term prehospital use in acute trauma such as sprains, strains, contusions and fractures. Flat O-temper aluminium between two layers of closed-cell foam is shaped into a C-curve, which makes the splint much stiffer along its length; it can be cut with ordinary scissors and flattened again for the next use. The closed-pore exterior can be cleaned and disinfected with diluted bleach, and the splint is radiolucent and MR Conditional.

Why the SAM Splint

Strength from a curve

Flat, the splint is soft and floppy. Bent into a C-curve, reverse C-curve or T-curve, it becomes rigid enough to support a fracture or sprain.

Cut to any size

Ordinary scissors cut through the foam and aluminium, so one 36-inch roll can become a finger, wrist or ankle splint. Tape over cut edges.

Reusable and cleanable

The closed-pore foam can be washed and disinfected in diluted bleach and put back in service; discard it if the aluminium is exposed.

Leave it on for imaging

The splint is radiolucent for X-ray and CT, and MR Conditional at 1.5 T and 3 T under the conditions in the IFU.

Where it is used

Ambulance services, emergency departments, sports medicine, school and workplace first aid, expedition and military medical kits.
