The e-Celsius Medical capsule is swallowed and measures core temperature as it passes through the digestive tract, usually over 24–48 hours, before leaving the body naturally. It transmits every 30 seconds by radio to the eViewer Medical monitor, which follows up to three capsules and shows minimum, maximum and alarm limits. Data transfer to the e-Celsius Manager software on PC or Mac for review. It avoids rectal probes when continuous core temperature is clinically needed.

Why the e-Celsius Medical
Swallow, then monitor
The capsule is activated, swallowed and then reports core temperature continuously as it passes through the digestive tract, usually for 24–48 hours.
Readings every 30 seconds
Temperature is sent by radio every 30 seconds to the eViewer Medical monitor, with 0.1 °C accuracy across a 25–45 °C calibrated range.
Alternative to rectal probes
The FDA indication covers patients who need continuous core temperature for more than six hours and for whom rectal catheters are not appropriate.
Up to 21 patients at once
Each monitor follows up to three capsules and up to seven monitors can run in parallel, with data exported to e-Celsius Manager on PC or Mac.
Where it is used
Hospitals and clinics for fever surveillance in infectious disease and oncology care, sleep and circadian-rhythm studies, with some recording at home under a physician's order.

Who can use it?
In the US it is prescription-only for adults 18 and over weighing more than 80 lb (36 kg). It is not for people with swallowing or oesophageal disorders or who cannot swallow the capsule safely.
What is the difference between e-Celsius Medical and e-Celsius Performance?
Both use the same 17.7 × 8.9 mm capsule. e-Celsius Medical is the FDA-cleared clinical system with the eViewer Medical monitor; e-Celsius Performance is a non-medical version for research and sport, with the ePerf Connect gateway option.
How long does a capsule work?
Each capsule operates for up to 20 days once activated, but typically leaves the body naturally after 24–48 hours. Capsules have a 2-year shelf life.
Is the capsule a medicine?
No. It is an electronic medical device that is swallowed; it contains no drug and is not absorbed.
