Polar Products

Cold-water immersion. Anywhere.

The Polar Life Pod is a heavy-duty PVC immersion bag that is carried to the casualty, filled with iced water from standard coolers and used at ground level. Arm ports, adjustable straps and a floating head support keep the airway above water while the neck and back of the head are cooled. A full-length two-way zipper at the foot drains the water away from the head when cooling ends. It packs into a gym bag weighing under 10 lb for sidelines, training grounds and worksites.

Why the Polar Life Pod

Bring the tub to them

Packed in a gym bag under 10 lb, the pod is carried to the casualty and set up at ground level, so cooling can begin on the spot rather than after a move.

Airway kept clear

A floating head support and integrated hood hold the head above the water line while cooling the neck; the maker notes the airway must still be monitored throughout.

Works with what is on site

Fill from three or four standard 10-gallon coolers of iced water. A university study reported ideal cooling rates with as little as 20 gallons.

Drains away from the head

A full-length two-way zipper at the foot releases water safely when cooling is complete, with a waterproof thermometer to check water temperature.

Where it is used

Questions

Is the Polar Life Pod available in the UAE and the GCC?

KGG sources the Polar Life Pod on request for sports organisations, employers, event medical providers and military users in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, supplied subject to registration in each destination country. Availability is confirmed with each quotation.

How much water and ice does it need?

The maker recommends 30–40 US gallons (about 115–150 litres) depending on the person's size, at below 15 °C / 59 °F. A university study it cites reported ideal cooling rates with as little as 20 gallons.

Who should use it?

It is intended for trained personnel following an emergency action plan for exertional heat illness. The maker stresses that the casualty's airway must be monitored throughout immersion.

Does it fit large adults and children?

It fits users up to roughly 7 ft tall and 400 lb, and the maker states the foot end can be folded under for children.

How is it different from a fixed ice tub?

A tub stays in one place and needs the casualty moved to it. The pod is carried to the casualty, set up on the ground and filled from on-site coolers, which suits remote pitches, ranges and worksites.
