The Microlife IR 210 measures temperature in the ear canal in one second using an infrared sensor. ACCUsens guidance confirms correct positioning with a "good" indicator and a beep, a blue probe light helps in a dark room, and the display glows red for readings of 37.5 °C or above. It stores 30 readings with date and time and also measures object and ambient temperature.

Why the Microlife IR 210
A reading in one second
The infrared sensor reads the heat radiated by the eardrum and surrounding tissue, so a measurement takes about one second, which helps with restless children.
Guided positioning
ACCUsens confirms the probe is correctly placed in the ear with a "good" indicator and a beep before the reading is trusted.
Fever at a glance
The backlight turns red for readings of 37.5 °C or higher and green below that, and a fever alarm sounds with ten short beeps.
Hygienic covers
BPA- and latex-free single-use probe covers, with 20 supplied, and a "clean me" reminder help keep the probe clean between users.
Three modes, one device
Body, object and ambient temperature modes, a 30-reading memory with date and time, and sound that can be switched off.

Microlife states a laboratory accuracy of ±0.2 °C between 35.0 and 42.0 °C. In its clinical results the bias was 0.03 °C with a repeatability of 0.19 °C. Earwax in the canal can cause a falsely low reading.
Does it need probe covers?
Yes. The IR 210 is designed for use with its hygienic probe covers; 20 come in the box and further covers are ordered separately.

Microlife gives a storage range of −25 to +55 °C and an operating range of 10 to 40 °C. Let the thermometer settle at room temperature before measuring.
Is the IR 210 the same as the older IR 1DE1?
No. The IR 210 is cleared by the FDA as model IR1DN1 (K183663, 2019); the IR1DE1 is an earlier Microlife ear thermometer cleared in 2002. Quotations are for the current IR 210.
